Daybreak Express by D.A. Pennebaker

Docs & Non-Fiction (Cultural)
[ 5:21 - from YouTube ]

D.A. “Penny” Pennebaker was born today (July 15, 1925) and with him came a new genre of film – The Pennebaker Documentary.  With camera in hand, Penny took us into wonderful worlds of chaos, conversation and visceral ‘scenes.’ The revolutionary transition from sticking to a fixed perspective to the jarring natural movement of the moment traces back to the wild imagination style of one Donn Alan Pennebaker.  In 1953 Pennebaker took a morning ride along with regular commuters on a train in N.Y. What he documented is a brilliant example of seeing beyond the mundane – finding the rhythm of life and reflecting a tribal experience. This is Daybreak Express.

Frequent quoter of big ideas including Hermann Hesse's 1936 poem Hours in the Garden - "I hear music and see men of the past and future. I see wise men and poets and scholars and artists harmoniously building the hundred-gated cathedral of Mind."
