Lady Gaga Feels Pre-Judged

Docs & Non-Fiction (Cultural), Music (Music Profiles)
[ 2:44 - from YouTube ]

On July 30th, 2009 Lady Gaga - she of the neon pink and platinum blond wigs, sexy dresses and "Just Dance" hit song - was interviewed by a Norwegian journalist.  I watched it as a kind of postmodern Warholesque Pop tribute to Bob Dylan's famous black and white interviews from the 60's.  I then pulled up the original Time Magazine interview in "Don't Look Back" to compare how these two young artists indignantly confront the press. Dylan argues vehemently for expressing a reality that he experiences, like seeing a hobo vomiting or living with the fact that we're all going to die and we really Know Nothing. He then rails against the Establishment that wants to mediate reality to the masses. Forty years later, Lady Gaga angrily defends the sexual references in her music and says that if she was a man, people would call her a Rock Star -- and that she is a Rock Star who "celebrates American Male Culture - beer and bars and muscle cars." Pop - you gotta love it.
