In Variations V (1965), John Cage worked with Merce Cunningham on one of their signature avant-garde pieces pushing the boundaries of music and dance, but also using film and television in disturbing ways to reflect their times. Cunningham - who passed away on July 26th, 2009 - was part of a truly revolutionary force in the arts, an exciting movement that included the painter Robert Rauschenberg and the composer Cage among others. The tectonic effect of their individual experiments and collaborations can still be felt in the landscape of culture today in music, music videos, dance moves and visual design.
