Isabella Rosselini does an incredible interpretation of animal mothers: "mothers are always mothers."  From a series of shorts for Sundance Channel highlighting the sacrifices mothers in the animal kingdom go through to assure the survival of their offspring.  Thanks to the NY Times for tipping us off to this series via their Mother's Day blog post:

Evangeline Morphos is a professor of film and theater at Columbia University. She developed the university's first courses in television as dramatic literature. Her scholarly work includes articles on American and British theater, narrative uses of the Internet and film. Evangeline holds a B.A. from Wellesley College and an A.M. and Ph.D. in English from Harvard University.
