The castigating tropes of America's slave and segregated past - the despicable Shuck n' Jive, the watermelon eating and black-face routine - are brought back to ugly life in irony, as a comedic warning to the deleterious effects of the commercialization of hip-hop.  This urban black culture that was originally created as a way to empower and give a voice to the black experience has now, according to NAS and many other rappers, become another corporate product out for profit - in short, another form of slavery where Gansta is another word for Sambo.
