My Deaf Family
Docs & Non-Fiction (Reality)
[ 9:11 - from YouTube ]
Produced by Marlee Matlin, "My Deaf Family" is a new pilot about 15 year old Jared and life with his deaf parents and siblings. It's an interesting look into the unique life of the deaf, but Jared's parents maintain it isn't a disability, it's just part of their identity. Jared deals with the usual problems facing any teenager and conflicts with his parents, independence and growing up. He's a real likeable kid who talks openly about prejudice and how the world treats his family. Marlee Matlin is campaigning for the use of subtitles for the deaf in online content, something most of us probably take for granted. This is the pilot, look forward to more.
