Katie Couric's Top Citizen Journalism Moments on YouTube
Docs & Non-Fiction (News, Politics)
[ 3:33 - from YouTube ]
In the midst of the debate over whether online video has been stealing viewers and thunder from the Boob Tube, the CBS Nightly News anchor honors YouTube’s fifth birthday by spotlighting five videos that illustrate the power of the platform, from footage of protests in Burma to the killing of an Iranian woman during elections to video shot during the Sichuan earthquake. Government censorship in all three countries would otherwise forbid the world from seeing – or even knowing about - such events. Today, thanks to "citizen journalists," says Couric, YouTube provides "a window into a world many of us would never otherwise see."
