Avatar: The Art of Performance Capture
Animation (3D), Docs & Non-Fiction (Art & Entertainment), Other Gems (Behind the Scenes)
[ 4:44 - from YouTube ]
I’m actually not a huge fan of behind-the-scenes exposés, but this one is an exception. The most notable parts are when a split screen is used to show the actor playing the role in the studio (dressed in a state-of-the-art visual effects marker suit) alongside the finished scene in the movie. This video demonstrates how the production process behind Avatar truly is a revolution in animation and visual effects, which means in the next 5 to 10 years, young filmmakers should be doing the same from their home computers.
